Birks Diamond Tribute to the Year’s Women in Film

TORONTO, ONT – Rain couldn’t damper the spirts on the red carpet on Bloor Street W in Toronto as Maison Birks in partnership with Telefilm Canada held their annual ‘Birks Diamond Tribute to the Year’s Women in Film’ that honours ten outstanding Canadian women for their contributions to film and TV.

A pan-Canadian jury of journalists from the arts and culture industries selected the 2014 honourees. The 2014 list included Anne Dorval (Mommy), Cobie Smulders (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.S.),Molly Parker (House of Cards), Sophie Nélisse (The Book Thief), and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black); and directors Jennifer Baichwal (Watermark), Marie-Hélène Cousineau and Madeline Piujuq Ivalu(Uvanga), and Nancy Florence Savard (The Rooster of St Victor), and Ric Esther Bienstock (Tales from the Organ Trade).2014 Women in Film

The Red Carpet featured some of Canada’s top Film & TV Actors and Directors, including Amanda Brugel, Shannon Beckner, Leah Pinsent  andPeter Keleghan, Natalie Brown, Rick Howland, Anthony Lemke , Art Hindle, Jordan Canning, Pat Mills, Ingrid Veninger, Don Carmody and Robert Lantos.

“At a time when the eyes of the world are on the Toronto International Film Festival, we want to highlight the enormous contribution made by these women to the dynamism of Canadian cinema,” said Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm.
