2014 The Sparkle Party

TORONTO, ON – The first annual Sparkle Party for Sheena’s Place was held at the trendy Drake Hotel on Queen West in Toronto on Thursday April 24th.

Stella may have had her groove, but guests at the Sparkle Party had their sparkles on. The first thing you noticed was most guests had some type of sparkle on.

The sushi and oyster bar lined the bar like a shimmering sparkle ocean and made a fine start to the evening, while the Bell Signature Cocktail (vodka and lemonade complete with a blue candy stir stick) greeted every guest who entered the Drake Hotel. Passed hors d’oeuvres included beef sliders, fried cheese balls, poutine, and lamb chops with a mustard maple sauce. The food was plentiful at this event to support individuals affected by eating disorders.

The music of DJ “Starting from Scratch” and The Digs; an energetic group of talented young musicians, ensured that the mood was upbeat.

On the rooftop patio; the Sky Bar, there was a Gourmet Taco Grille station with a variety of accompaniments of which the orange hot sauce was my favourite! At the bar there were cigars and scotch. Inside there was spicy pulled pork and beef.

Silent auction items included gift packages from Pink Tartan, Body Beautiful, Hard Candy Fitness, and the Lake Joseph Club Resort. Sports packages were offered for the Leafs, Raptors, TFC and the Jays.

TeAlchemy prepared a drink made with tequila and tea for tasting. In keeping with the glitter theme, Picasso Painters applied a glitter tattoo for all to see. The “Ice Volcano” table in the back of the main lounge created wonderful strawberry ice cream using liquid nitrogen for dessert. This was one of the locations for a “star” on your program map and a ballot for a prize draw. First place was custom designed.

Proceeds from this fundraiser went to Sheena’s Place; a non-institutional, nonresidential centre in downtown Toronto, where people with similar issues come together in groups to share experiences, thoughts, feelings, and coping strategies about eating disorders, for their new Family-Based Therapy program.

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness and Sheena’s Place ensures that no one has to face eating disorders alone.

Congratulations to Jennifer Bassett and her team from Bassett Events for another amazing event.
