By Roxy Rowe (Senior Writer)

TORONTO, ON – Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world… the Carlu was the site of the National Ballet School’s (NBS) annual gala.  The historic art deco halls of 1930’s architectural splendor was the perfect setting for the Casablanca-themed gala as it was transformed into Rick’s Café Americain.

The event was able to “round up the usual suspects” of patrons, supporters and fans of the National Ballet School to raise $850,000 for NBS students who need financial assistance.

The 500 guests were treated to a cocktail reception followed by an exquisite four-course Moroccan inspired dinner.  Afterward, guests tried their luck at the casino and lounge with raffle tickets for $45,000 worth of prizes.  A highlight of the evening was a live ballet performance by NBS’ Professional Ballet Program students, showcasing tremendous talent and the exquisite beauty of the art.

Play it again Sam!  Just when you thought it was all over, the after-party for 35 and unders kept the action going until the wee hours.

The NBS has held this annual fundraising gala for more than 20 years.  Sold-out tickets for the 2014 Casablanca Gala is a reminder to get your ticket early for next year’s Gala or you will regret it…maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.
