The 2014 The Lucky Ball

by Olesia S (Staff Writer)

The 2nd Annual Lucky Ball, a fun fundraiser proved to be just as spectacular as the first. Conceived by Scott Shallow of Brad Lamb Realty and Sennheiser in February 2013, the original $10,000 donation to the Fort York Food Bank has attracted so many sponsors that all the proceeds from this St. Patrick’s Day themed event go directly to the Fort York Food Bank.

To support this great cause, this event, which was attended by influential and fashionable young professionals in full cocktail attire from all over the city, took place at the Revival Bar on March 13, 2014.

Musical Director and DJ Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene had the young movers shakin’. Whitney Pizale (W Events) and Lindsay Grange (Rethink Breast Cancer) planned this amazing party. The ‘open’ bars were well stocked with Molson’s, Coors and Heineken. Unlike most events, my request for a vodka-cranberry (Three Olives- the London Vodka) took only moments to reach my hand! Although it was clearly not the draw for most guests, the hors d’oeuvres; samosas, prosciutto and melon, cherry tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella, (Revival and Delysees French Bakery) were plentiful. Unfortunately (or fortunately) because the Lucky Ball was packed, most of the platters remained on the bar-top to sample when ordering a beverage.

The FYFB (Fort York Food Bank) an agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank, serves approximately 1500 people in need each and every month. Chris Murphy at CIBC covered the cost of the event decor as well as other party essentials. The goal of the Lucky Ball was to raise $50,000 for the Fort York Food Bank with 500 attendees paying $100 per ticket which I am sure they achieved. So successful was this fundraiser that they may need to find a larger venue in their third year!!!
