TORONTO, ON – The 12th Annual ACTRA Awards in Toronto was held at the fabulous Carlu Event Centre (The Old Eaton’s College Park) on Saturday February 23, 2014.
Highlighting the best of ACTRA Toronto Members for the past year, it gave members a chance to be recognized for their outstanding performances by their peers.
Darrell Dennis, hosted the gala evening with live music by singer Saidah Baba Talibah, who, had a ‘signer’ to accompany her on stage for one of her songs.
David Sparrow, ACTRA Toronto President gave a rousing speech in which he stated “Each year our awards get bigger and better,”
The Outstanding Male Performance went to Rick Roberts for his portrayal of the late NDP Leader Jack Layton in for Jack. His awards was proudly accepted by his sons (who were joined onstage by NDP M.P Olivia Chow) who stated that their Dad, Rick was away portraying Canadian Prime Minister Stephen in Victoria, B.C.
The Outstanding Female Performance went to Amanda Brugel for her outstanding performance as Vanessa in Sex After Kids, who thanked her parents for their unwavering support of her and her chosen career.
The 2014 ACTRA Toronto Award of Excellence went to actor R.H. Thomson who was introduced 2008 Award of Excellence winner Eric Peterson.
ACTRA awards handed out Saturday went to
- Rick Robers for Outstanding Male Performance for Jack
- Amanda Brugel for Outstanding Female Performance for Sex After Kids
- Terry McGurrin for Outstanding Voice Performance for Scaredy Squirrel
- Marco Bianco for the ACTRA Toronto Stunt Award.
- R.H. Thomson The 2014 ACTRA Toronto Award of Excellence
